Cobalt Alpha Plans
September 7th, 2011, CobaltWe plan to open up pre-orders in October. Everyone who pre-orders gets access to the alpha which starts at the same time, as well as all versions leading up to the final release.
This will be an opportunity for you to try the game out early, but most of all we are doing this because we need your help in getting the game done. We need input, suggestions, criticism, play-testing, mapping, bug reporting and even more feedback. Basically, Cobalt is not done, so we are asking our community to help us move the game in the right direction.
The alpha will lack features as well as content on top of being buggy, but it will be available to anyone willing to pre-order.
Pre-ordering will be offered at a reduced price compared to the released game.
The alpha will most likely only be for windows, with more platforms coming later.

Yeeeeeeeees ! But… Cobalt will be on steam for the 1.0 release ?
September 7th, 2011 at 9:39 pm

September 7th, 2011 at 9:53 pm
I’wanna plaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 7th, 2011 at 9:57 pm
Sure, I’ll pre-order as first person ^^
September 7th, 2011 at 10:03 pm
Sweet, I can’t wait to pre-order the game. I’m a bit concerned about the lack of a pre-order price in the announcement. Will it be about 10.00 USD at pre-order, or will it have a higher price.
September 7th, 2011 at 10:05 pm
Sounds like a plan. I am so getting this the day alpha is released.
September 7th, 2011 at 10:09 pm
How much does it cost? I’m sure all of us wants to know.
September 7th, 2011 at 10:20 pm
wouldn’t mind knowing exactly when a release for the mac platform is. As soon as you decide it of course.
September 7th, 2011 at 10:33 pm
Cost is not mentioned because we have not discussed it yet. Suggestions? =)
Also, when mac and linux versions are released is vague because we don’t know either. We are working on it though!

I’d say you should charge less than $100US and more than $1US. Somewhere right in there should work fine. But no matter what — call it a sale and we’ll buy it.
September 7th, 2011 at 11:12 pm
whoooooooo! very excited to hear this! I’d figure a good price would be $10-$20, but this is inaccurate as I don’t know how much content there is and will be in Cobalt
September 7th, 2011 at 11:21 pm
I’d be tempted to bite at, say, $8-10 for an early alpha. Much more, and I’d rather spend the money elsewhere, if I spent it at all.
September 7th, 2011 at 11:33 pm
Hurayyyy!!!
Can’t wait to play it already,
The price for early beta should be something around 10 bux, but sooner less than more.
September 8th, 2011 at 1:01 am
If you want an accurate price, open up the indev game for a few loyal patrons. I.e The people who beat you at pax (If anyone did ;3) and people who have great ideas or suggestions, Like Me!
Anyway, the game looks great and im excited to see it in action.
September 8th, 2011 at 12:50 pm
I will preorder for sure ; )
September 8th, 2011 at 4:07 pm
Please try and get it working on Linux!
September 8th, 2011 at 4:38 pm
Hey, i realy liked the game.
Please, i need this game for linux!!!
September 8th, 2011 at 5:01 pm
I think $10-15US is just good
but it depends on how much the final will cost
September 8th, 2011 at 7:40 pm
I agree with Minju on that price. And maybe bundle it with another game for the first week or so. I haven’t got a feel for the type of games you create since I found out about the studio through Mojang, and that would be a great way to show off your other works to the masses.

[...] They later had to clarify that they will be having pre-orders for the game next month which will provide you with access to all the versions of the game as they come out. The alpha starting at the same time as the pre-orders. [...]
September 9th, 2011 at 7:58 am
Meh. Windows :/
I hope it will be worth the wait until it comes for Mac and maybe iPhone…
September 9th, 2011 at 8:38 am
I think about 10 $ should be fine for an alpha version, depending on the amount on content (i dont know it!) And for the final release about 20$ or something like that
September 9th, 2011 at 12:01 pm
Waiting for release =>
September 9th, 2011 at 12:37 pm
Count me in, all indies of quality and discounted price have my love
September 9th, 2011 at 1:21 pm
10 USD Is pretty much right on par for the first stage of alpha pricing. It’s reasonable, affordable, rewards you, and attracts people who might be looking to get into the oxeye/mojang craze.
September 9th, 2011 at 3:04 pm
i will pre-order def.
been looking forward to test this
September 10th, 2011 at 5:09 am

September 12th, 2011 at 6:50 pm
I will pre-order for mac if possible.
I am very excited about this game.
Been watchin for many months now
September 12th, 2011 at 7:53 pm
What about WINE support? ; )
September 12th, 2011 at 7:55 pm
jellocube: dunno =).. all our previous games works well on WINE, so I assume this will too, but you never know.
September 13th, 2011 at 7:23 am
I will definitely pre-order this if its around $10 =D
September 15th, 2011 at 7:40 pm
This and Diablo3 are the games i look forward to the most.
but… windows only… thats like “ok we have the best aerodynamic design, the best racing driver a 1000hp engine – but the wheels are made of wood.”
September 17th, 2011 at 6:48 am
Personally, most indie games of this caliber are $10 as a finished product. Much more and you better have a lot of content to back up the price. Obviously the game has taken a long time to develop, but you have to remember there are other games just as cheap out there competing for money.
For the alpha release, I would probably pay $7ish just due to the fact that it will be buggy and all the content is not available. As the beta and full release come, you can increase the price similar to how Minecraft bumped its prices through its development phase.
September 20th, 2011 at 2:27 pm
Very very looking forward to this, one of the top games i looking most forward to this year
September 20th, 2011 at 4:24 pm
The game is currently not active =(
September 21st, 2011 at 5:48 pm
I’d be very willing to pre-order, especially since I’ve spent so long following the game’s development.
September 21st, 2011 at 11:24 pm
I would pay up to 30 dollars for this game, you guys are insane! Have you not watched all the videos of the content there is? its already a lot. the world editor, the multiplayer, the campaign, capture the plug, survival… that’s already SO much more than minecraft had to offer in alpha and it was what 10 dollars? I think it will obviously be up to the creators who have spent years working on this game but i recommend making these cheapos pay in the 20’s!
September 24th, 2011 at 8:35 pm
if its priced the same as minecraft was with as many updates and public info im interested but im on mac so that is an issue (dual launch i would love !!!)
September 25th, 2011 at 5:01 pm
I’d be willing to pay about €10 for an alpha, €15 for a finished product, tbh.
September 26th, 2011 at 2:46 am
I’ll definitely pay for this.
September 26th, 2011 at 4:51 am
I would be willing to pay 10$ for the alpha because as alpha its only begun with a few bits of content thus if there is continued updates regularly I would be willing to part with 20$
September 26th, 2011 at 1:46 pm
All that content I said earlier X 2. multiplayer ftw!
September 26th, 2011 at 1:47 pm
How will MP work?

November 25th, 2011 at 3:50 pm
10$ seems pretty average for an indie game. But i’ll buy it no matter how cheap or expensive it is
November 26th, 2011 at 11:46 pm
Has the pre-order started? And where can you do it in such case?
November 27th, 2011 at 3:59 am
Any news for the pre-order date yet? I can’t wait for this game! I will definitely pre-order the day it comes out no matter what the cost.
November 27th, 2011 at 11:55 am
HURRY UP AND RELEASE!!!!! im desperate
December 1st, 2011 at 7:57 pm
I think 10 dollar is a good amount of money to begin with.
And ofcourse I will pre-order but I don’t know for sure where to buy the pre-order or where I can post suggestions/feedback.
So I will buy the pre-order as soon as possible.
And if anyone can tell me where a can give suggestions/feedback I will do that for sure!
Realy good work Oxeyegames/mojang!!
December 4th, 2011 at 11:44 pm
$10 is a good price, oh, and WHERE DO I PRE-ORDER?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
December 5th, 2011 at 1:52 pm
jesus! when it will be released !i cant wait it!
December 6th, 2011 at 4:21 am
Wow! I just love all of the videos I am seeing of this game, it looks amazing!
Personally, I think that it will cost around the same as Minecraft did when it was first released as an Alpha. Therefore, probably about 10 Euros for the alpha, 15 for the beta, and probably about 20 euros for the full release. Although, I would be willing to pay even more, this game looks awesome!
Anyway, what I want to know is when! You guys said before the holidays, but how soon? The game looked pretty polished up at Minecon, albeit a few minor bugs. Plus, it is an alpha, so it will have bugs anyway.
Also, I love how it will be written in Lua codding. That will make mods much easier to install!
Oxeye, good job, I await your release with anticipation!
December 6th, 2011 at 8:13 am
I totaly agree with Mr Frash.
Thist game is just fantastic. And if this game has any bugs or not when the release come out it’s still amezing.
I can’t wait to see this little guy “Cobalt” in real action =D
December 21st, 2011 at 1:38 pm
awesome can’t wait for release date
now i know a lot of people will disagree with me when i say that this game looks like it would be better on touch screen devices my reasoning is that because the game is 2-d it might be better on something like an ipad or iphone or android or tablet etc obviously since i haven’t got the game i can’t be sure but it looks like that only the mouse is requried so it can easily be transfered to an portable device
December 26th, 2011 at 3:24 pm
Yay finally come out and on windows first doesn’t get much better than that
January 4th, 2012 at 5:13 am
Whatever the pre-order price is – it will be fair. I for one, am not involved in designing the actual game. I will pay & play & offer comments. For that I will be greatful.
April 6th, 2012 at 1:32 pm
I have cobalt! This game is truely awesome, but it DOES have a lot a features currently missing. I hope it is just a addictive as Minecraft once it’s in Gold! (And plus, it’s already addicting!)
