Designed to counter the extremely hot and bright and blinding sunlight on the bright side of slow spinning moon Icarus I. Their purpose was to house the miners that mined the ever so volatile but valuable bacteria that grew there. In the "war against earth" they quickly found out that their solar shields worked excellent against the humans' pesky laser systems.
